The role of the Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) was introduced as Teaching Schools emerged into the self-improving school led system. They are now firmly established as highly credible and effective system leaders, ultimately raising standards and improving outcomes for children.
SLEs are outstanding middle and senior leaders who have the skills to support individuals or teams in similar positions in other schools. They understand what outstanding leadership practice in their area of expertise looks like, and are skilled in helping other leaders to achieve it in their own context.
SLEs have a particular area of expertise (for example, age phase, a subject area, curriculum design, Pupil Premium, SEND etc) and a successful track record of school improvement.
If you are an experienced middle or senior leader who is interested in supporting school improvement, our SLE recruitment process is by application to firstname.lastname@example.org. It will be dependent on our current capacity, need and of course, applicants meeting the entry criteria.
To become a Specialist Leader of Education, you need to have been in a leadership role for at least 2 years. You do not need to be in an outstanding school or a school that is part of a Teaching School Alliance. Your headteacher will be asked to confirm that you are in an appropriate role and to approve your application.
